Newfoundland's own Kevin Collins is up for The Songwriter of the Year Award in Ireland and is working on his First Ever DVD Video! The pride of Placentia, Kevin Collins, has been nominated for Songwriter of the Year at the Irish and Country Music Magazine Awards to be held in Kildare, Ireland on February 21, 2005. The nomination comes after numerous Irish artists recorded several of Collins' songs. It's a recognition of the tremendous contribution this Newfoundlander has made to Irish music. Collins leaves for Ireland on Wednesday, where he'll be involved in promotional interviews with all genres of media. He will also hire camera people to take footage of scenery, people, music and events which will become part of his first-ever DVD video. The video will include about 12 songs both from Newfoundland and Ireland. "As Tourism and the Irish/Newfoundland connection grows stronger, being a part of this DVD will enhance the awareness and profile of all parties involved," Collins said. Marketed through radio, TV and print, the DVD will be sold and distributed throughout Canada and Europe. "I have learned as the global market expands, that we have no alternative but to come up with new initiatives, if we are to keep our businesses, town and heritage in the forefront," Collins said. Because of his Irish roots and his high profile throughout Ireland, this artist is indeed in an ideal position to make this DVD project as successful as it will be memorable. Upcoming
dates..

luck Kevin, from Newfoundlanders.net |

"Síochána" CD Release Party!!!! February 10, 2005 at Bridie Molloy's, George Street -7:00 PM to 11:00 PM "Síochána" are about to release their first "solo" CD entitled "On Our Own" - Live at Bridie Molloy's. The CD includes 9 original songs and a couple of Traditionals and Covers. The CD was also recorded live at Bridie Molloy's November 28, 2004. Síochána (pronounced Sha-kawh-naa) which means Peace, was formed in April 1999. This 6 member group play irish, bluegrass, folk, country and a little rock and roll to change up the pace. They are high energy on stage, and are quickly becoming known as a crowd pleasing party band. They are not shy when it comes to playing a sweet ballad to get you up and close with that someone special. Their harmonies on songs like "Fox on the Run" or "You Feel The Same Way Too" will have you singing along in no time. If it's close to the floor jigs you want "The Jig Is Up" or the "Lonesome Boatman" will be sure to get your toes tappin'. If it's acca pella you want look for the boys to tackle "The Rocky Road To Dublin" or "Peter Street". And, if it's original music you're looking for, "Rugged Shores", Hall's Bay Fishman", or the soon to be released "The Beacon" will be sure to bring you back looking for more. The guys would like to thank all the artists who donated tracks for the first two projects, as well as the help and support they have received from a large circle of people in the industry. You
will usually find the guys playing the club scene or festivals &
conventions but if there is a charity event nearby, it would be a strange
thing to not see them lending their support. Congratulations
Síochána! More
